A 10 minutes Breath Awareness Meditation: Romshri

Romshri guides us through one of the oldest meditation practices called "Zazen."

By Romshri Manisha Ashesh |  August 30, 2018 | Guided Meditation

The oldest meditation of Zen Buddhist tradition is the simplest as well. We all need a calm corner amidst of our hectic lives to recharge, rejuvenate and reawaken. Our flash mob meditation concept ATM: Any Time Meditation is based on this only. You can do it anywhere, anytime but nothing can beat a morning meditation!

So without wasting time, let’s do it.

Step 1: Sit comfortably, with your back straight.
Set a soothing timer for 10 minutes.  Find a calm place where you would not be disturbed. Sit in a relaxed posture but back straight. You can visualize your backbone as a pole and your rest of body as a coat resting on it. Keep your neck straight too but not stressed. Close your eyes and relax. Gently move your attention away from what you’re thinking to the sensations in your forehead and around your eyes. Cut yourself from outer world for a while and turn your focus inward.

Step 2: Relax & Release.

Take three deep breaths. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.  Release all the tension and let go off all the stress. Breathe in only peace and relaxation. Now breathe only through your nose naturally. Breathing in, know you’re breathing in. Breathing out, know you’re breathing out.

Step 3: Become Aware of Breath.

Start increasing your awareness of breath. Do not breathe with effort. Keep it natural. Just observe it with utmost attentiveness. Notice how your body feels as you relax and drop. The part of your mind that is noticing—that’s what is awareness. It’s nothing special. You don’t need to look for it. You don’t need to do anything at all. Awareness is always there.

Step 4: Watch your thoughts Fading
Do not try to control your thoughts which you watch your breath. Remember, meditation means doing nothing mentally; only observing. Let thoughts come and go in your mind’s screen.  It is natural for clouds to appear and disappear but sky remains the same. Your awareness may also go here and there, you can simply and gently pull it back and again focus on breath. This is what practice is all about. Simply, again and again watch your breath.

That’s all!

Meditation is not a rocket-science. It is simply “Watching Your Breath”.
